Universal Periodic Review
How can civil society engage with the United Nations?
This multi-session training takes advantage of a timely moment in Canada’s relationship with the United Nations. A newly developed mechanism at the UN, the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), ensures that all countries have their human rights record reviewed and evaluated on a rotating basis. In 2012, Canada prepared its response to the UN committee’s first review, as well as finalized their second submission to the UPR due in February 2013. The UPR is specifically designed to include participation from civil society. The JHC is excited to offer training on the UN system, the UPR mechanism and the most effective ways to have your communities’ voices heard at this international level.
