YOUTH FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS IN EDMONTON’S FIRST EVER SOCIAL JUSTICE FILM FESTIVAL
August 11, 2016
Edmonton (August 10) - The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights in partnership with the Metro Cinema will be hosting an ambitious Social Justice Film Festival, JUSTICE 4 REEL on August 26, 27 & 28, 2016 at the Garneau Theatre.
JUSTICE 4 REEL will highlight the talent of aspiring young filmmakers who are focused on exploring themes connected to social justice, human rights and grassroots activism. In addition, this inspiring event will provide a platform for justice-focused artists across multiple disciplines (such as music and visual/digital arts) to be showcased throughout the festival.
The festival will kickoff with a launch reception on Friday, August 26th at 6.30pm showcasing youth submissions featuring a range of critical social issues such as poverty, suicide and murdered and missing indigenous women. During the three day festival, two documentaries “Brothers in the Buddha” and “The Tipping Point: Age of the Oilsands” will also be featured followed by a Q&A session. Admission for each day of the festival is $10 at the door.
JUSTICE 4 REEL will tackle important topics affecting young people and create opportunities for social change through artistic expression & community dialogue.
The John Humphrey Centre is currently looking for more partners and sponsors for the festival to provide gifts to the young filmmakers, please find out more here: http://www.jhcentre.org/news-blog/seeking-support-young-filmmakers.
This initiative has been made possible with the support of the Edmonton Community Foundation's Youth Empowerment Grant and in partnership with Metro Cinema.
