Educational toolkit on Dignity aims to challenge perceptions of poverty in Edmonton

In partnership with the City of Edmonton and End Poverty Edmonton, the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights is excited to release the 2018 YEG Dignity School Resource toolkit. This resource provides a guide to Edmonton teachers, volunteers and youth program leaders to integrate activities in the classroom while contributing to addressing poverty in Edmonton.

This educational toolkit will challenge student perceptions of poverty and look forward to how Edmontonians can rally together to protect and support all in the community to belong, participate and live a life of well-being. The sessions use dialogue and art to unpack the concept of dignity and connect students to people in the community with lived experience, allowing students to think about what dignity means in their own lives and how to be aware of the dignity of others.  

In 2018, the YEG Dignity Campaign is focusing on highlighting the lived experiences of people living with disabilities. This year our goal is to amplify the voice of people with disabilities and their daily struggle to end poverty and be included in Edmonton spaces. It focuses on allowing the able bodied community to understand the privileges of ableism and be aware of the systemic barriers that face people living with disabilities.  

We call schools, teachers, educators, organizations, media, and the general public to be part of YEG Dignity 2018! Deliver lessons in your school. Have JHC in to facilitate a session or two. Join us on Global Dignity Day, October 17, 2018, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
