Media Advisory: Kingsway/RAH Transit Centre Mural to Honour Edmonton’s Interfaith Community
On May 17th, a team of artists will start painting the third Paint the Rails mural at Kingsway/RAH Transit Centre; a collaboration between John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) and Edmonton Transit Service (ETS).
Date: May 17-27, 2019
Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Kingsway/RAH Transit Centre (111 Avenue and 106 Street). The public and the media are welcome to stop by to view the work and talk to the artists, AJA Louden and Carla Rae Taylor, while painting is in progress.
Paint the Rails is a Legacy Project with a dynamic storytelling approach that transforms local history into murals that reflect our diverse communities through art, dialogue and documentation. The mural at Kingsway/RAH Transit Centre will bring together the stories of three Edmonton faith communities; Temple Beth Ora, Shiloh Baptist Church and Al Rashid Mosque.
The imagery itself includes a number of illuminated yarn balls containing a mix of images that reflect the stories of the various communities. The images are dispersed so that no one ball represents a specific community, but each is a mixture of cultural experiences and aspirations. It is our hope that this piece can inspire viewers to dig deep into their own journey, recognize their talents and use them, regardless of what they may be, to contribute to the healing and repair of our city.
