Media Release: Students lead Reconciliation Conference in Edmonton

Edmonton, AB – May 23, 2019 - The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights is proud to announce their ReconciliACTION Youth Conference, such will be led by youth and aims to promote Truth and Reconciliation in Edmonton, on May 24th and 25th, 2019.

During the last two months students have been part of the ReconciliACTION Youth Training which included 5 team meetings that facilitated intercultural dialogue and processes to equip youth educators with leadership skills, tools, and relationships. At the conference, these youth will collaborate to work towards truth and reconciliation at a local level, learn and teach about our shared history and build skills to educate others on the realities and manifestations of colonization.

“The message we want to convey is that everyone should become part of Reconciliation; we need to build relationships, foster equality, treat people without discrimination and educate the community,” youth.

The ReconciliACTION Youth Conference aims to provide a safe space for local Youth, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and the community in general to learn more about our shared history on Turtle Island, and collaborate to build relationships between the parts and the rest of the community.

The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights envisions a world that manifests a culture of peace and human rights through education and community building guided by the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
