Contract Position: 30-35 hours per week until March 31 2021
Rate of Pay: $25-$33/hour depending on experience

At the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, we are a leading non-profit agency in Edmonton, Alberta working to advance a culture of peace and human rights, as guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Centre is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to support the increased demands and intake of volunteers as a result of the COVID19 response efforts supported by the organization. The staff are facing increasing pressures and need the support of a strong team member who can work to build and manage the appropriate infrastructure to support all of JHCs programming.
The applicant must possess excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experience. The Volunteer Manager will be innovative and strategic, yet task-oriented and organized. They will recruit, screen, coordinate training and manage volunteers. The Centre has an emerging volunteer program and this position will be a major part of the development and evolution of this work and effort and play an important role in the sustainability of the organization.
Responsibilities
Source and recruit volunteers
Collect information on availabilities and skills
Arrange for appropriate training and orientation when needed
Produce schedules and monitor attendance
Develop plans and assign responsibilities for special events and projects
Coordinate, coach and support teams of volunteers
Liaise and communicate with JHC staff to ensure engagement and participation
Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
Disseminate information for upcoming actions and events to volunteers
Keep detailed and updated records of volunteers’ information and assignments
Εnsure the purpose of the organization and its actions is clearly communicated
Build appropriate screening protocols and processes to protect our volunteers and participants
Work collaboratively with the JHC team to evolve and strengthen our volunteer efforts
Establish relationships with organizations that bridge the recruitment and screening of volunteers
Requirements
Proven experience managing and coordinating people
Experience in volunteering locally and/or internationally
Experience in recruiting through various channels
Working knowledge of databases and Google platforms
Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
Time management and accountability skills
Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
A pleasant, outgoing personality
Skills in facilitation and collaboration
