Paint the Rails: Clareview LRT Mural Unveiling!

PTR Clareview Unveiling Poster (3).jpg

Join the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights and Edmonton Transit Service in the official unveiling of the newest Paint the Rails mural at Clareview LRT Station!

Local artists AJA Louden, Dana Belcourt and Matthew Cardinal came together with Edmonton’s Chinese, Sri Lankan, Latin American and Filipino communities to learn about the local moments that matter to each community identity. In addition to local stories, the artwork is inspired by textiles, fabric, clothing, blankets and woven cultural items shared from each cultural community’s diverse traditions.

While each of these communities are vibrant and varied, there remain key themes in common: stories of migration, hope and belonging. Participating community partners shared diaspora experiences of second, third, fourth generation roots; recounting the importance of restoring connections with ancestral knowledge, reclaiming cultural traditions and revealing journeys of perseverance, courage and resilience. Animals and images from nature, such as mountains, rivers and forests were key elements in common among all communities we spoke to, evoking the beauty of the natural world and visions of ‘back home’.

“The Paint the Rails murals highlight our city’s history and show our commitment to collaboration, community, and creativity. ETS is proud to support this initiative and to be the home of five murals that enhance the stories of our community.” - Marvin Babiuk, Edmonton Transit Service
