2022 HR Awards Nomination

Dear Staff, Board and Volunteers of John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights,

Firstly, I want to thank you all for all the hard work and effort this year. JHC continued to help hold the community as we transitioned out of the COVID response efforts. So much has been accomplished, and we have had, and continue to have, an incredible impact on our community as we strive to build a human rights city; a place where all belong, are valued and participate. Considering this response effort, on top of all the other work we do to serve our community and put human rights into action across the province and country, we have achieved a lot. That could not have been done without a lot of incredible people who help to make it all happen. We also know that along with JHC, there are many others who are working hard to make Edmonton a stronger and more resilient place for all of us.

As some of you may know, JHC has annually held the Human Rights Awards to recognize local champions of human rights in the community.  It has come that time of year again for all of us to think about who those local heroes are in our midst and to make sure that we submit a nomination for consideration. We would like to encourage you to consider those who have really worked to support, uphold, and advocate for human rights over the past year.

We will recognize these heroes on September 28 2022 at a public awards ceremony which will be held as a hybrid event online and in-person to enable accessibility. We will celebrate their work and ensure they know the important role they play.  If you have someone who you think has played a pivotal role this past year and feel they deserve to be recognized, we want to hear from you!

Please consider nominating someone. Our deadline for submissions is May 31st, 2022. The nominations can be submitted online here.

Thank you all,

Idara Effiom
