Call for Artists - YEG Dignity Mural
We are looking for local Edmonton based artists interested in contributing to an upcoming YEG Dignity Mural to be created in the City Centre/Churchill Link pedway, a space needing some love and vibrancy downtown.
Our goal is to build a diverse team of artists representing diversity in gender, orientation, ability, race and ethnicity. The selected team of artists will come together in November for a first gathering to share food, ground in a space of learning together supported by Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, and discuss the concept for the project. The team will then again meet in December for a technical workshop to finalize plans and start painting in the new year. Art pieces will be done on panels which can be installed in the pedway; with each artist bringing their own unique flavour and blend to the larger concept. Painting of the panels will be complete for March 2023. Each artist will receive $1,200 for their panel and all supplies will be provided. The overarching theme will be around Mother Earth and the natural environment.
To express your interest as an artist in this project, please email us at info@jhcentre.org and in no more than 250 words tell us why you would like to engage in a project such as this and share a sample of your work.
Deadline to apply is September 28 2022.
The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) has worked with Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) since 2007 to create engaging and beautiful murals at transit stations to help tell the diverse stories of our community. So far, five murals have been created led by artists AJA Louden and Carla Rae Taylor. Visit here to learn more. In 2023, we are excited to continue working with AJA and Carla to take on this project in collaboration with the Youth Wellness Alliance.
