Stride Advocacy (Including poverty advocacy)

How and why did you first get involved with JHC?

I found the opportunity online through a volunteer website. I was looking for something to fit my legal background and interest.

What are your activities and what do they involve?

I started off as a case manager with JHC and now have moved into an advocate position.

How long have you been a volunteer for this initiative (and for JHC as a whole)?

3 years

What is it like to volunteer for this initiative?

It’s rewarding work and it’s something you know is needed as an essential institution within Canada.

What has surprised you most about this role?

The level of governance some cases reach. There is interaction with the United Nations at points.

Are there any learnings/ challenges you have experienced through this work?

The challenges that come about are usually with identifying jurisdiction for people to resolve their issues. Because of this issue I have learned about different governing bodies I was not aware of.
