National Volunteer Week: April 16-22, 2023
Volunteers are at the center of community, giving their time, expertise, and heart to the projects and work that they feel passionate about. Without them, organizations would not be able to function and likely be overwhelmed. Volunteering is an incredible way to build connections, skills and capacity through mentorship and experience, and contributes to every organization’s success.
“How much I am learning about myself is really surprising. I feel like this role is helping me to do good for others and the community, which gives me a sense of accomplishment and contributes to my sense of belonging and self-worth.”
- Muna Ahmed, AMC Project Volunteer
At the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC), we are so proud to work with a team of incredible people who give their time and energy towards manifesting a culture of peace and human rights. We are proud to walk alongside community and our trusted volunteers to advance dignity, freedom, justice, and security through collaborative relationships and transformative education on peace and human rights. Our volunteers are crucial to our work and the impact is felt both by JHC as a whole, and by the volunteers themselves, who are truly making a difference through their work and efforts.
“I was looking for something to fit my legal background and interest. I started off as a case manager with JHC and now have moved into an advocate position. It’s rewarding work and it’s something you know is needed as an essential institution within Canada.”
- Stephen Muzamhindo, Stride Advocate and Case Manager
JHC wishes to thank our many volunteers, including the Board of Directors, Committee members, Stride Advocates, Facilitators, Research and Data Analysts, and the many volunteers that continue to shape and move forward the various initiatives and projects that JHC is engaged in. We thank you for your passion, your energy, your time and commitment to human rights and building a better world for all.

“I find it extremely rewarding to contribute to the Social Stride Project, especially since the pandemic has accelerated the shift to digital platforms, introducing additional challenges like online hate, discrimination, and misinformation. Being a part of this initiative allows me to contribute to making the online environment a safer and more inclusive space.”
- Simi Sandhu, Data Analyst; Social Stride Research Team
