Get Involved: Activism Education Volunteer Opportunity
In anticipation of an exciting new initiative, the Inspiring Change: Learning Activism from Older Generations project, the JHC is looking for volunteers to fulfill the project’s varied needs.
About the Inspiring Change: Learning Activism from Older Generations project:
Edmonton holds the title of North America’s first Human Rights City recognized by the United Nations Development Programme, and has been a hub for human rights activism for decades. This project will conduct interviews and document the knowledge and impactful contributions of community activists who were active in the 1960s and 1970s for current and future generations.
Responsibilities for the Edmonton Activism Project Volunteer will include:
Supporting video interviews of senior activists
Helping with digital editing of interview footage
Assisting in the creation of digital education tools and lesson plans
Researching to supplement interview findings
Skills we are looking for:
Fluency in English; fluency in other languages is an asset but not required
Experience with interviewing and journalism; good written & verbal communication
Experience with diverse communities and older adults is a plus
Experience in teaching and knowledge in lesson planning; research
Experience with digital content creation/video editing is beneficial
Average Time Commitment: 6-16 hours per month
