Anti-Discrimination, Online Legislation, & Young Folks Leading the Way

Recently, two young Albertan leaders that have worked closely with JHC, Fea Jerulen Gelvezon and Ly Raine, went to #CIGF2024, hosted by the Canadian Internet Governance Forum. While there, they learned about the future of internet governance, strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration, the impact of the Online Harms Bill, and the importance of incorporating youth voices in shaping the digital world. These two young leaders have been active in Alberta doing digital literacy and anti-racism education for their peers, and have provided critical feedback on Bill C-63, the Online Harms Bill.

JHC has been connecting with young people across Canada on the Online Harms Bill to ensure their voices are heard on legislation that will be directly impacting them. Earlier this year, young people shared their concerns and input on the bill in their response Addressing Online Harms Through Bill C-63. Fea and Ly were delighted to meet and share insight into how the policy impacts them with Senator Scott Tannas, Senator Karen Sorensen, Senator Patti Laboucan-Benson, and Senator Kristopher Wells.
