Bill 80 Round Table Talk
Join us on October 26 at 1PM Mountain Time to discuss Bill 80
Calling lawyers, legal professionals, human rights advocates, law students, and non-profit organizations to a virtual conversation and gathering on the impacts of Bill 80, which made several key amendments to the Alberta Human Rights Act and to the complaint process at the Alberta Human Rights Commission.
On December 8, 2021, the Alberta Legislative Assembly passed Bill 80, making several key amendments to the Alberta Human Rights Act and to the complaints process at the Alberta Human Rights Commission. When a complaint is made to the Commission, the Director of the Commission plays a screening role in determining how best to address the issue. Under the amended legislation, the Director may dismiss a complaint if it:
is without merit;
is made in bad faith for an improper purpose or motive;
has no reasonable prospect of success; or,
should be, will be, or has been dealt with in another forum.
In light of the amendments, the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) invites you to a virtual roundtable and network gathering to discuss the impact of the new legislation, Raising the Bar for Human Rights Complainants in Alberta: Bill 80, taking place online on October 26, 2022 from 1-3 pm MDT via Zoom.
