Volunteer Highlight Sept 2024: You can’t spell “Community” without Unity!
This month we wanted to highlight the effort of the many volunteers who helped make the Peace and Unity Festival a reality! After the unexpected and abrupt shutdown of our first Peace and Unity Festival on June 29, 2024, the event organizers - Migrante Alberta, Memoria Viva Society, and the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights - were able to bring folks together once more on August 31, 2024 to complete the event and celebrate the spirit of peace, unity and solidarity as it should have been all along.
This event would not have been possible without the steadfast support of event organizers, performers, community partners, vendors and the amazing volunteers who gave their time on these two weekends to make sure the events went ahead smoothly. Volunteers helped with aspects of both festivals. At the first Festival in June, volunteers supported as greeters/parking attendants, monitoring child and youth activities, art activities, assisted with a tipi raising, concession and photography. When we were forced to shut down, volunteers sprang into action, quickly helping to tear down the event and assisted with loading materials into our cars to move off site, all the while battling the strong emotions we were all feeling at the time. At the second event, many volunteers returned to help with setup, stage help, greeters, photography, security and concession. They came with warmth, smiles, open hearts and helping hands to ensure we could make this dream a reality once more.
We want to thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for your time, your dedication, your love, your work, and your commitment to creating a world of peace, joy, love, and unity. Thank you for being part of this Festival. Thank you for your support and love. Thank you for being part of this community with us. We appreciate you all so much!
