Action Alberta: Upcoming Gatherings
The John Humphrey Centre, along with partners the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee and REACH Edmonton, are working together to push forward difficult conversations on racism and hate in communities across the province.
We invite stakeholders, partners and community members interested in working together to build stronger relations and strengthen our collective response to hate, racism and discrimination within your region. We are looking for participants in the public sector, law enforcement and community to cultivate relations among stakeholders and to build constructive action forward through these relationships.
Over the past three months, we have worked to build a team of facilitators from across the province to support these gatherings and to ensure safe, constructive dialogue. Our teams are excited to host you.
Please join us to push the conversation into the spaces it needs to go. Registration for the sessions can be found on Eventbrite. The series includes five conversations over the course of ten weeks that build on each other. They work to build relations, dig into the realities, and build strategies for action.

Edmonton’s Unique Approach
From 2019-2021, a team of over 50 Edmontonians met and piloted a series of conversations which resulted in stronger collaboration and team work around responding to hate, racism and discrimination. In a sense, they have already had the conversations among a team and have identified a desire to focus on pushing forward difficult conversations on racism, hate and discrimination within our schools. Our goal in these gatherings is to build stronger relations and strengthen our collective engagement, understanding and response to racism and discrimination in schools. We are inviting stakeholders within the public sector, law enforcement and community to cultivate relations among stakeholders and to build constructive action forward through these relationships for the dignity and well-being of children and youth in our community.
