COVID-19 has highlighted the fragile nature of the art, music and live performance scenes; local working artists of all kinds are facing a crisis of industry and approach with immense challenges ahead. We remain committed to supporting and connecting local artists and ensure no one is left behind.
Community Arts Forum for Justice
While folks are organizing to make sure that venues, independent artists and employment opportunities don’t get left behind during quarantine, we also see a greater visibility and awareness of the ongoing systemic racism and far-reaching injustices targeting racialized communities.
We were proud to bring together 20 local artists and community arts facilitators September 4-5, 2020, to examine these realities and the roles and responsibility of artists, as we move towards a new framework of equity, justice and opportunity for all.
Dana Belcourt, a participant of the Arts Forum, designed a Manifesto outlining issues, questions, and calls to action from the forum. Check out Manifesto here!
