The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights builds communities: spaces where all are included, participate and belong.

Human rights are most real at the community level. While we have international and national instruments for the protection of human rights, living in dignity is realized through our every day relationships with each other: our workplaces, schools, homes and beyond.

The John Humphrey Centre plays a critical role in building spaces of collaboration, respect, commitment and change.  An organization like ours cannot be understated – we play a valuable role in building a shared future within the hearts and minds of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and experiences.

"If we are to reach real peace in this world... we shall have to begin with children" - Mahatma Gandhi.

While the Centre’s programming embraces programming for all ages, we have a strong belief in human rights education with children to build our future.

We need you to be part of a movement towards a future of peace, freedom and justice – towards a realization of human rights. Share our events and work, sponsor a programvolunteer your time, or participate in one of our training programs. We also gratefully accept any donations through CanadaHelps (Charitable Number 86870 3679 RR0001).

We appreciate your help, whatever way it looks like. Thank you!

On March 18, 2012, the John Humphrey Centre lost a founding father. Gerald Gall was an inspiration, leader, mentor and friend to the JHC's Board and staff. To learn more about this human rights hero, his biography follows this post. In this time of loss, we seek to honour the contribution Gerry made to our work, our community, our country and ourselves. This is just a snapshot of what made him great and what made him our leader. We miss you Professor Gall.
